Build your workplace evidence checklist.

Pick what fits your situation and print the result. Nothing you select here is sent anywhere or stored. This is an organizational aid, not legal advice, and it never tells you to take material you are not entitled to keep.

Why preserve evidence early

Workplace records disappear quickly: badge logs and schedules cycle out, chat threads get purged on retention timers, and your own account access usually ends the day employment does. The safest habit is simple, preserving your own records, lawfully, as events happen.

Two rules keep preservation safe. First, keep only what you received or created in the ordinary course of your work, never someone else's files, privileged material, or bulk downloads. Second, store copies at home, not on employer systems.

What this checklist is not

It does not assess whether you have a case, and a complete folder does not create one; the law, the facts, and the deadlines do. If any of this feels close to your situation, the reliable next step is a private review. Deadlines can be shorter than people expect; see the filing deadlines by state.

Discuss your situation with an employment attorney.

Answer a few brief questions about your workplace matter. Every submission is reviewed by the firm, and potential matters are reviewed by an attorney. Submitting does not create an attorney-client relationship; that begins only if the firm agrees in writing to represent you.
